Cracker Jack & Shirley Temple

Post by Ron Toth, Jr. »

Hello Cracker Jack Friends.
A sad day yesterday because of the passing of Shirley Temple. (April 23, 1928 – February 10, 2014)
I place this post in her honor.
The first three pictures below are still images from the 1934 movie "Bright Eyes" where she is singing the song "On The Good Ship Lollipop" while carrying a large Cracker Jack box down the aisle. The YouTube video of that particular scene is below as well. The last image is of a 1930s Shirley Temple Juneau Theatre flyer. It advertises that there is a "Free box of Cracker Jack to the first 300 kiddies".

Thanks Ron, I completely forgot about that scene. Sad to read about her passing away.

"On The Good Ship Lollipop" was written by Whiting, Richard / Clare, Sidney.

On The Good Ship Lollipop

I've thrown away my toys,
Even my drums and trains,
I want to make some noise,
with real live airplanes.
Some day I'm going to fly,
I'll be a pilot to,
and when I do,
how would you,
like to be my crew?

On the good ship
lollipop
its a sweet trip
to the candy shop
where bon-bon's play,
on the sunny beach
of peppermint bay
Lemonade stands,
everywhere
crackerjack bands,
fill the air,
and there you are,
happy landings on a chocolate bar.
See the sugar bowl
do a tootsie roll
in a big bad devils food cake,
if you eat too much,
oh, oh,
you'll awake,
with a tummy ache.

On the good ship
lollipop
its a nice trip,
in to bed you hop,
and dream away,
on the good ship
lollipop

Hi, Ron :hiya:

Vicki and I enjoyed the film clip of Shirley Temple singing one of her iconic songs On the Good Ship Lollipop. We were saddened by her death but our memories of her remain. It was cool to see the big 1930's Cracker Jack box and it was from the right time period! Thanks for displaying the Juneau flier, too; very interesting.

Yes, Ron, thank you for the "Shirley Temple" memories. They certainly are precious. We all feel we grew up with
Shirley.
